Of course you don't, no one does.
But if we all lived by that rule, we'd all be sacks of bones with no muscles to keep us going!
So how do we get around this? Sometimes you have to give yourself a little (or a lot of) pushing to get going. If you just *say* your going to do it, that's not really going to get you anywhere, is it? Use these tips to get yourself to stick to that resolution of "exercising more", and really mean it!
Four words we always tell ourselves, "going to the gym!". Liar. When and how do we make time to go to the gym? If you're fortunate to have a gym membership, or access to a free gym (say in your apartment building), use it! Instead of dreading the gym all day long after a hard and tiring day at work, and then skipping it all together, because let's be honest, you've been thinking about Cheetos now all day long and that treadmill just doesn't look as good, try going to the gym in the morning! What? The morning? That's right. Get up a bit earlier and head to the gym first thing! You'll be energized for the rest of the day! And then you CAN enjoy those Cheetos at the end of your day, because you earned it! (However don't eat Cheetos all the time, every day, maybe have an apple or something so you don't get scurvy.) If you're part of the "9 to 5" crowd, this should work out (hehe, get it, work out) just fine for you. Even half an hour at the gym, just before work, is better than no gym.
Okay so you don't have access to the gym (that's cool, they're expensive anyways), so head outside! What? Outside? That's right. Step out into nature. There are SO MANY THINGS that are active that you can do outside. Take up running, there's probably tons of running groups you can join in your neighbourhood if you just look and see. Or grab a friend and start jogging together, hold each other accountable and plan to meet up a couple times a week. Hate running? Same. It's the worst. So why not go walking or hiking? Walking is just as good as running, slowly speed up your pace, and you'll really feel like you've had a good work out. Check out trails near by, or head to a hill or mountain on the weekend for a leisurely hike. What about biking? It's collecting dust in your garage or storage shed probably, so dust it off and go for a pedal around your neighbourhood! Increase your distance and pace slowly so you don't hurt yourself. Or join a sports team, like softball or soccer.
It's too cold right? Obviously. Who wants to work out in the rain? No one. Ever. Except really awesome rain work out people. So how do we work out inside? Try looking up a Youtube yoga or pilates channel. Create your own routine, or find a 30 day work out challenge on Pinterest, with jumping jacks, lunges, squats, and crunches; start small and slowly increase your reps as your body gets used to being back in shape. And for the more ingenious people, who have a little more space to work with, check out Varage Sale or Used(insert your city here) or Craigslist, or Facebook Marketplace; you'd be surprised how many people are giving away treadmills or ellipticals for FREE! YES FREE! Or sometimes for money, but usually a heck of a lot cheaper than brand new machines cost. Or even look for small equipment like mats and hand weights. It's amazing the set up you can make for little to no cost by checking out the classifieds!
As you can see, there are so many options. Morning or night, weekends, or vacations. Even if you took 20-30 minutes a day doing a little activity, you'll probably find your body starts to feel great sooner than later. And then you'll just be so addicted to exercise that you might even spend, wait for it, AN HOUR A DAY, exercising! Yes a whole hour! That's 1 whole episode of Game of Thrones, or 2 episodes of Friends! But you'll look and feel amazing.

We started off the year with our VERY FIRST massage and reflexology session from a great local spa in Victoria called 9 Elements Spa & Reflexology. The ladies there are absolutely amazing and really made our first experience comfortable. So obviously now we're addicted! And we have made the conscious decision to spend 2018 making sure we take care of ourselves in the best way possible- from healthy eating, to exercise, to that extra special pampering session every girl (or guy) needs once in a while!

Our faces are the first thing people (usually) notice when they meet us for the first time. It's how we're remembered. It's how we stand out from the stranger next to us.
And sometimes we forget to take care of our faces. Everyone's face is different, but should be cared for the same.
That's where we come in. We spent a long time trying our different combinations or ingredients, different Essential Oil blends, testing on our human volunteers, and ourselves, until we finally created products that actually worked.
Why do they work?
Well you see, when you go to the store, and a nice lady offers you a really pretty looking jar, possibly a shallow frosted glass with metallic lettering and a $$$ price tag, we're intrigued. It's the next best thing! But what's in that jar? Have you ever actually read the label? Usually there's so many words with X's and O's, but not the kind of X's and O's we want. Our products only contain ingredients you can read and pronounce- and are natural. Our face oil for example is pure oil- no water, no synthetic additives, no chemical preservatives, no added colours like red #(whatever one is bad for you, probably all of them?). So what you end up with, is a (affordable) bottle of concentrated moisturizer, a healthy oil to moisturize your skin and take care of pesky issues that maybe water based products are drying out.
But my skin is oily! Shouldn't I strip it with alcohol based products or moisturizers that have no oil, to get rid of all the oil?
I mean if you want to. But no, probably not. Have you noticed that you continually have to use these alcohol based products non stop and your face is still oily? That's because you're removing your skins natural oils. How do we stop that? By counteracting the issue. Like dissolves like. It's basic science! When you cleanse AND moisturize your skin with oil it helps to balance your overactive oil production. Some of our very favourite human volunteers suffer from oily skin and it's been a huge help to them. Don't knock it til you try it!
I have skin issues like eczema and psoriasis, will your products cure these?
Cure? No. But, we have had people tell us that using our products have helped soothe and relieve, and even diminish the appearance of these issues. We make no claim to cure anything, or that they will help everyone. However we love hearing back from people who have found relief after using our products. Remember, everyone's skin is different! What works for you might not work for your friend. But going the all natural route is definitely an amazing step to take towards better skin care.
My lips feel like glass cutting sandpaper, what can I do?
Start with exfoliating daily or several times a week until you see relief. Then, use our lip balms! They're great! Seriously. Do you ever find you're having to apply lip balm over and over and over again because it just doesn't last? Us too. That's why we created a lip balm that's long lasting, and will make your lips super duper soft. Although some of our lip balms contain flavour oil (which are either 100% natural, or a natural/artificial blend; concentrated in a cottonseed oil base, and are gluten-free), they're completely natural otherwise. What is the "Bandholz" beard, you ask? It's a style made famous by Eric Bandholz, the owner of Beardbrand (hence the name!). It's big, it's bushy, and it's glorious.
Why are we featuring this beard style for the November of Beards? To us, this style shows a full-bodied embracing of the beard lifestyle and it deserves all the respect.
To grow the Bandholz beard, you need a lot of patience, since amassing such an epic display of masculinity can take months. You'll also need to take care of your beard on the regular.
With a beard this long, combing becomes a necessity. Longer beard hairs can grow out in every direction, either leaving you looking sloppy or patchy. Neither one is a good look on any man. Something as simple as remembering to comb your beard every so often can work wonders. Not only does it get all your glorious hairs pointing in the same direction, it also makes sure there's nothing stuck in your beard (yuck!), and helps distribute your natural oils along all your beard hairs.
We hope this goes without saying, but please also wash your beard. Like any hair on your body, your beard gets dirty and needs to be cleaned. Just like you wouldn't skip shampooing the hair on the top of your head, you can't skip washing your beard.
In addition to combing and washing your beard, you'll want to supplement your face's natural oils with a high quality beard oil. This helps to avoid annoying issues like dandruff and split ends, and can help alleviate any dry skin you get under your beard. As an added benefit, it will make your beard look fuller and shinier.
Finally, no beauty tip would be complete without a reminder to take care of your health. Your hair and skin are a reflection of your health, so making sure you're getting enough exercise, drinking plenty of water, and eating a nutritious diet are important keys to help your beard look your best.

Historically, beards have been a way for men to indicate very important things about themselves, whether their status as a warrior or a priest in the earliest history of beards, their political alignment, or their rebellion against the current ruling elite.
Depending on the political climate and social correctness of the time, beard fashion can cycle quite quickly, but the meaning attributed to the different sorts of facial hair doesn’t seem to change much. A full beard has continued to be a sign of masculinity, linked to independence and strength, where a clean-shaven man is seen to reflect the more traditionally feminine ideals of trustworthiness, cooperation and youth. A clean-shaven man was also seen to be more civilized, where a bearded man harkened back to a wilder time.
Throughout history, there have often been “beard movements” where personalities will encourage their followers to grow specific types of beards to indicate their support of a movement. One of the most notable examples in recent history is John Lennon and Yoko Ono’s “bed ins” where they encouraged young people to support peace by growing out their hair. Another example is Fidel Castro use of a beard as a symbol of his revolution. Castro told his supporters that their “...beard does not belong to [them]. It belongs to the revolution”. As far back as the 1800s, French and American rebels grew their beards for this reason.
History aside, you can’t ignore that beards are gaining in popularity. Whatever your personal reason for growing a beard – to express your autonomy, your masculinity, your religious identity, or just to support a worthy cause like Movember – take care of it for goodness sake!

Alas we are at the end of our Bath & Bathe October segment. It has been such a fun month, trying new, and old, recipes, and sharing all the yummy baked goods with friends and family! A lot of recipes have really taken me down memory lane, with memories of the first time I made the treat, like the pavlova, or the ingredients I used reminding me of memories with grandparents.
For this last treat, I really wanted something simple, easy, quick, and ultimately yummy as well! So off to the inter webs I went again looking for an easy baked good. Did you know you can find a PLETHORA or 3-4 ingredient baked goods? The great thing is how many are vegan or vegetarian friendly some recipes are as well. This one isn't so much as it has eggs, but it was really easy and I didn't have to buy anything I didn't already have.
All you need is;
- 4 egg whites
- 1/2 cup sugar
- 3 cups shredded coconut (the recipe I found said to use sweetened coconut, but all I had was unsweetened, but I like my treats a little less sweet than one people)
First line 2 baking sheets with parchment paper and set oven to 350F.
1) Whip the egg whites until frothy.
2) Add sugar and incorporate into egg whites.
3) Stir in coconut.
Drop the "dough" into mounds on the cookie sheets with a large rounded spoon or ice cream scoop.
Bake for 15-20 minutes or until the tops are brown.
The total length of time to make these is only about 25 mins!
I know what you're thinking, "didn't you just do an egg white based baked good?"
Yes. Yes I did. But these are SO easy, and they're a cookie. Who is going to say no to a cookie? No one.

We're just goin to cut to the chase on this one:
Have you ever had PAVLOVA? It's delicious! I love the crisp chewy outside and fluffy meringue inside.
I first had pavlova at my inlaws and fell in love! A meringue cake? So. Good.
I've since made it a couple times, once last Christmas- a wreath pavlova with a cranberry and pomegranate mascarpone whip (which is what I'm sharing with you today!) and then last Mother's Day I treated my mom to lemon curd pavlova nests with blueberries and mint, because her favourite dessert is lemon meringue pie, so I put a little twist on it!
Today's berry pavlova has got to be the best of the two so far. I love the combination of mascarpone and whipping cream- it's light from the whipping cream, but has that little light bit of savouriness of the mascarpone cheese. And mixed with a pomegranate cranberry sauce, oh man. What is not to like? It's not too sugary (even my husband and my father in law who don't love desserts will eat it!) Plus it's topped with sugared cranberries and pomegranate arils, with some rosemary sprigs to give it a little more colour and make it festive.

MY ONE MISTAKE:
As I mentioned, I've made pavlova before. I've baked my entire life and have had few fails in my baking efforts, so the first time I made pavlova I was so happy it turned out perfect. THIS TIME I got lazy, the recipe specifically said to use a stand mixer, but I didn't feel like pulling it out of the cupboard so I used a hand mixer. BIG NO NO! It took forever to fluff the egg whites, and even then I had to pour it into my stand mixer anyways to fix it. Bottom line? Don't be lazy, do it right the first time! And the baking gods were on my side because it ended up turning out fine, not great! But fine. It was the perfect end to my first slow cooker roast dinner.

Do you ever feel like it's been a while since you ate a certain type of food? Like you go all summer without eating pasta, so you gorge down a massive bowl of spaghetti the first day it rains?
Well when mid fall hits, I get the urge to eat berries. But have you ever tried to buy berries in fall? They gross. Every carton of strawberries I picked up was moldy, and even at $2.99 a box, I'm too lazy to pick through for the good ones.
God bless the freezer isle. YOU CAN HAVE PEACHES IN WINTER!
Recently I've been thinking lots about family and how my grandparents used to grow strawberries and other fruits and veggies in their yard, which I loved to pick when I was a small child! All that reminiscing made me crave something with strawberries and rhubarb (if you look hard enough you'll find frozen rhubarb), and off to the interwebs I went.
I found a super simple recipe for Strawberry Rhubarb Streusel Muffins; it uses Greek yogurt so they're super moist! The recipe probably calls for fresh berries (it doesn't actually say) but I used frozen and they turned out great. The original recipe also says to fill the muffin tins up only 2/3 but I filled them right up for big muffins and just made sure to pack in the Streusel topping so they didn't overflow off.
